The Brief

A New York
institution,
reimagined.

The evolution of Lou G. Siegal — once a landmark kosher restaurant in New York City — through Ben’s Deli and into Mr. Broadway is a story of transformation in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Studio RB took on the challenge of honoring that legacy while giving the 5,500-square-foot space a bold new identity.

The approach centered on preserving and integrating original Art Deco architectural elements: metalwork, stained glass, and distinctive moldings that carry decades of New York dining history. Rather than erasing the past, the design layers new moments on top of it.

The centerpiece is the bar, positioned at the front of the restaurant against the street-facing window — a deliberate choice to create a social hub visible to passersby on Broadway. Finished in antique brass, 3D tiles, and leathered granite, it anchors the room with a dramatic LED library wall that draws the eye from the street. Overhead, a “Starry Night” ceiling — metal panels punched with holes and lit by fiber optic lights — transforms the space into something theatrical after dark.
