The Brief

Warmly Italian.
Rich with
material memory.

Coletta is an Italian vegan and kosher restaurant at 365 Third Avenue in North Gramercy, Manhattan — a 1,380-square-foot dining room designed by Studio RB for City Roots Hospitality. The brief asked for a space that felt warmly Italian without resorting to cliché: intimate, considered, and rich with the kind of material detail that rewards a second visit.

Studio RB designed the interior around reclaimed wood banquettes, a hand-painted backdrop by artist Lia Ali, and a palette of warm terracotta, aged brass, and soft plaster. The lighting scheme was conceived to feel candlelit at all hours, with warm-toned pendants and wall sconces creating a glow that flatters both the food and the room. Coletta opened on Valentine’s Day 2022 to considerable press attention.
